Thanks for your refreshing honesty. Your gremlin is a nasty little fella. But I can appreciate the cleverness of the gremlin wanting to twist inspiration into further doubt and fear that "you will never get there". (FYI, there was a nasty gremlin homicide by one of my workshop participants last night - it wasn't pretty, but you can take a lesson or two from that person!) The fact that you can admire Rob's positive attitude means that having a positive attitude is a quality innate in you. It's probably a part of your Essence (more on this in a later post). It may be weighed down (a lot?) by your gremlins right now, but the good news is you can get out! I have been there - treading, declining, the whole nine yards.. and it takes a lot of work, but isn't it worth it? What are you waiting for?!? This is your life! Your one and only life. When you think about all your talents and gifts.. I'm envisioning your talents and gifts now, physically weighing inside of you like a giant balloon.. just waiting to be set free. You can't pretend that it is okay not to live your life full out. You know it, I know it, so let's not pretend that it's okay. There is more out there for you. Way more. Frighteningly more. What are you waiting for?

Rob is like a walking (skiing?) self-help book with all his bits of wisdom (that he sifted out of the debris of his mistakes--I like that quote a lot!) His positive attitude is so impressive. I am "treading water". I am "declining and vegetating". Makes me wonder though if it does take something as life-altering/rock-bottom such as alcoholism to bring about such a dramatic shift in attitude. (Is that my gremlin talking? :))

Great interview! I'm going to share this with lots of people in my life- he's got great suggestions and learnings. I liked his comment about " The point is it’s not an accident. You start it early. Curve your career" and the point about moving towards something, "it doesn’t have to be a great goal, like curing cancer, it could be being a better skier…", definitely makes changing your career or area of interest feel more attainable and less daunting. Thanks Rob and Jung!

Isn't it fun that he has a catchy name for his theory? Brilliant!

I agree with you that a person with a "Black Hole" can work on planting the seed for his or herself. It can be challenging, but people are no doubt stronger and greater than their circumstances.

Thanks for sharing, Manuela! Loving yourself is definitely the common theme for finding fulfillment. I know you are an expert in helping people "fall in love with themselves" with your workshops! I hope many people find you and in doing so, find themselves.

What an inspiring interview! I love the way he tries to begin each day: "I try to wake up every morning like my dog does. No matter how crappy the day before was, the dogs wake up happy. Every day is a great day. " And he is so right about loving yourself. It is the foundation for a happier life, and I believe there are many people out there who struggle with this. The good news is that it is something that you can work on and develop for yourself!

Very inspirational post! I especially like the Black Hole theory, it is so true that each person should love himself before he reach out to others, and I am a firm believer that the hole can be healed after people found their purpose of life!
